ClaimID
ClaimID is a social networking site that allows users to create unique profiles that show their favorite websites and other biographical information. The goal of ClaimID is to help users collect and screen information created about them and by them on the web, which helps them manage their online identity.[1]
History
ClaimID was founded by Terrell Russell and Fred Stutzman.[2] At the time, both were students studying for their doctorates at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Information and Library Science.[3]
Importance
ClaimID is one of the few Web 2.0 sites that provides Online Reputation Management (ORM) services. Other sites providing similar services include Naymz and LinkedIn. ClaimID's listings usually rank well in search engines and provide users with a simplified way to put themselves on the internet. ClaimID gained Web 2.0 popularity due to its ORM capabilities, and it remains an important part of Web 2.0's burgeoning exploration into the ORM industry.
Both print and digital news outlets, including Businessweek, The San Francisco Chronicle, Reuters, New Scientist and Asian News International, have placed ClaimID as part of the ORM movement.
