Zoosk is an online dating community that utilizes social media tools to help members (known as "Zooskers") meet.[1]
Overview
Zoosk enables its users to meet and connect with others within the context of their online social networks. Users can join Zoosk by adding the Zoosk application widget through Facebook, Bebo, Hi5, Friendster, and MySpace, or by signing up directly at the company's website. Users set up a Zoosk "Date Card" (i.e. a user profile). Zooskers can connect with each other through winks and flirts and by sending virtual gifts.
More than 40 million singles in 40 countries use Zoosk.[2] Zoosk is available in 13 languages (Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish).
The service sees an average of 12 million unique users a month, and based on figures in September 2009, said it had a $30 million run rate, and expected to close 2009 with $18-$20 million in revenue.[3]
The company was founded in December 2007 by Shayan Zadeh and Alex Mehr. It received venture funding from Canaan Partners, ATA Ventures, and Amidzad Partners.
