Ty Hildenbrandt is the winner of the first ever McDonald's Next Great Sportswriter competition on FOXSports.com, the MSN-affiliated website for Fox Sports (USA). The contest, which gave amateur writers the chance to win a contract as a contributing columnist for FOXSports.com through the site's blogging community, concluded on February 8, 2006. The general readership of FOXSports.com voted and picked Hildenbrandt, a 2004 graduate of Penn State University, over Jon Gunnells from Michigan State University in the final round.
Hildenbrandt has written about a variety of topics, including the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, the NFL Draft, World Cup soccer, Major League Baseball, fantasy football, mascots, Joe Paterno and notable fans from professional sports franchises. Currently, he writes for SI.com about college sports and pop culture.
Hildenbrandt also hosts Yankee Fan Club Radio, the largest independently-run New York Yankees live show podcast on the internet, which is syndicated through The People's Sports Radio Network and sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Yankee Fan Club. He has run the program with his uncle, "Uncle Joe Colarusso," since April 2005. The show airs through YankeeFanClubRadio.com and has featured a number of big name guests and reporters.
Ty worked on the Two Minute Warning blog with Stacey Monponsett and was a frequent contributor to AOL's Sports Bloggers Live radio program with Jamie Mottram.
