MoOLIT

MoOLIT (Motif OPEN LOOK Intrinsics Toolkit) was a graphical user interface library and application programming interface (API) created by Unix System Laboratories in an attempt to make a compromise between the two competing look-and-feels for Unix workstations at the time—OPEN LOOK and OSF Motif.

The library provided common GUI features such as boxes, menus, lists, buttons, etc., but allowed users to choose which GUI they wanted at runtime. It was a short lived project, as the industry was solidly moving towards Motif as the standard.

A small software company, MJM Software (a subsidiary of Melillo Consulting, Inc.), licensed the MoOLIT source in 1992 and ported it to several other Unix platforms, most notably HP-UX. In addition, the company addressed the set of traditional OLIT widgets that Unix System Laboratories had yet to provide a Motif presentation for, thus offering a Motif look & feel for the entire Unix System Laboratories and Sun OLIT widget sets. These versions of MoOLIT were the most commercially successful. They were sold almost exclusively to AT&T and Lucent and used to add a Motif look and feel to their legacy OPEN LOOK applications.
