Even though i don't have real experience with video optimization, i believe your words are true. I think is the same optimization as it is in pictures.

In order to get your video in search engine results, try to get more views for it by submitting in facebook or by social bookmarking etc.

- Create a bunch of videos of your product / service / how to etc.
- Add a keyword rich description and synopsis
- Create crisp title tags for your videos
- Create good keyword rich tags for your videos
- Add a video Sitemap in your website
- Allow people to add comments on your videos

For video optimization, you can make a video 1-3 minutes is enough to promote or advertise your website. Then research some video sites like youtube, dailymotion, vimeo and etc. Create a title and description with your website URL. Actually, there are video sites that doesn't allow URL to your description which can be your keyword.
