Hi guys, just wondering if any of you use software to help with your link building strategies.

I have been using moz and open site explorer as well as majestic SEO but I am looking for other options.

I tried Linkdex and was not a fan but I liked the concept. Also looked into gShift. Competitor analysis is super important for me and I like to be able to have unlimited access to competitors and their backlinks.

Any suggestions appreciated, thanks!

Hey Raxa,

Like you I too enjoy dissecting competitor backlinks to try to better understand where they are getting their "juice" from.  Some of the free tools that I use (few already mentioned above and a few new ones) are:

RankSignals
MajesticSEO
Ahrefs
LinkDiagnosis
MozCheck
LinkProspector by CitationLabs
Backlinkwatch

You should pretty much be able to figure out everything you need from there.  Of course other tools like Google Analytics, Bitly, etc. are also good at evaluating backlinks.  If you have a specific backlink goal it is usually not too difficult to get where you want to go.

Doing competitor analysis is one thing and building quality links for websites is another important issue. There are no reliable and effective tools out there which can replace doing link building manually because quality links are not gained in an automated way.

It is recommended to forget about using some automated link-building programs and instead focus on gathering the finest links manually, just one by one. It sure is a long-term process which needs to be done in the course of time and patiently.

I have always used manual link building methods in the past and also present. Manual submissions help in link surety and creates less spam. Softwares usually used bulk submission methods which are not very relevant as compared to individual manual submission. We can say the saying well applies here: "Slow and steady wins the race". Take time for your own link building manually rather than trust a link building software to spam around.

The most effective way to obtain free backlinks is commenting on Relevant Blogs Forums, and Social Bookmarking. The problem is finding ones that are Do Follow. Don't get me wrong, commenting on "No-Follow" sites can be beneficial - but if you want link juice it is essential you find ones that follow your link and have a backlink checker.
